Birmingham Songwriters Wanted to Impress Industry Judges
Chris – Century 21; We enjoyed the retro style of this and felt it was a good protest song with a hard biting lyric, however it would have been good to add some lightness/dynamic and it needed a clearer chorus. Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus. He won’t let her go; This song had a well told story and catchy verse but it would have been good if it managed to breach a pay-off line.
Fred – This song had well-constructed lyrics that maintained our interest throughout. Continue to perfect your performance, click here for more information on live performance opportunities.
Ali – Both the start and chorus in this song were great. It has a nice little hook but this needs to be arrived at quicker. Click here for more information on how to structure effectively when writing a song.
Doreen & John – The emotion of the heartfelt lyrics in this song translates well to your audience, however they may find it hard to identify with the subject matter.
Ariane – This was a well-crafted, dynamic song with a clearly defined chorus which was well delivered. It would benefit from a more obvious hook and maintained direction throughout. Click here for more information on the importance of structure when writing a song.
Barry – This was a lovely song, however the melody was a little too simple. Perhaps it would be beneficial to get another songwriter to look at this and help tweak it. Click here for more information on song writers – working with other song writers.
Birmingham Songwriters Wanted to Impress - Feedback
Zeliza – This was a contemporary song which grooved well but we felt it would benefit from a commercial hook. Perhaps it would be beneficial to get another song writer to help create this for you. Click here for more information on song writers – working with other song writers.
Nathan – This song was well structured with a competent lyric, however we felt that the pre-chorus could lead in to the chorus more effectively. Click here for more information on how to structure effectively when writing a song.
Rebecca – This was an intense song but we felt it would benefit from more contrast throughout.
Gabby – Sunrise; This song would benefit from less tempo changes as it felt a little rushed. Freedom; This song would benefit from a more obvious hook. You could potentially benefit from getting another songwriter to help create a strong hook. Click here for more information on song writers – working with other song writers.
Sarah – This song was structured well with a strong chorus and engaging lyrics. Now just continue perfecting your performance. Click here for more information on live performance opportunities.
Tracey – Looking out to sea; This song would benefit from a stronger chorus but had a really good top line and lyrics. Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus. Want to be mine; This song had a nicely structured lyric and melody.
Christina – This song had a strong, simple verse and chorus however we felt it would benefit from a greater focus on connecting with the performance. Click here for more information on live performance opportunities which will help you work on this. You would benefit from losing the ‘Da Da’s’ on the intro as they are too long.
Birmingham Songwriters Feedback
Lyndsey – This song had a nice, retro funky feel, however we feel it could potentially benefit from a chord change.
Teri – Lift me; Although this song had a clear chorus it didn’t feel like it stood out to us. However we feel like with the right production it could work well within its desired market (the contemporary Christian genre). Cry; This song would benefit from more build. Mamma’s song; It had a sensitive melody but would benefit from a clearer hook and more structure. Click here for more information on the importance of structure when writing a song.
Siggo- She Loves; This was a terrific song and a breath of fresh air. There was a nice skip back from the false bridge in to the 2nd verse and some interesting lyrical rhymes coupled with cool hooks. All our yesterdays; Another brilliant song with engaging first verse lyrics, however it didn’t seem to have a real chorus. We feel it would potentially benefit from utilising ‘AOY’ as a pay-off line. Long way down; The pre-chorus in this song needs to set up the chorus more effectively so it arrives with impact. Click here for more information on how to ensure you have a strong structure when writing a song.
Alisha – This song had a great vibe with a good hook and slinky rhythm. It was very listenable and we see this as a potential hit. Now just continue to perfect your performance. Click here for information on live performance opportunities.
Rosie – This song had good lyrics however we felt it could have been more dynamic to build anticipation and would benefit from a bigger chorus. It could be beneficial to consider working with another song writer to help strengthen these aspects of the song. Click here for information on song writers – working with other song writers.
Seth – Desert roads; This song could work well with a big production on it however the melody would benefit from being more obvious for it to work well with only the guitar. Click here for tips on guitar playing warm ups to ensure you are well prepared to play. All she wanted was love; This had a contemporary feel but we felt it would benefit from additional change and contrast throughout.
Major third – The new me; This song had a memorable chorus, however the verse lacked direction and didn’t complement it well. Good man down; There are some clever lyrics with a melody that hooks you in but this song would benefit from tightening its structure.
