Brighton Songwriters Wanted to Impress Music Industry Judges
Tony Kelly Band – The Sun Loves the Summer; Nice, warming vibe which was catchy and nostalgic but felt like it meandered along with little purpose. Perhaps you need to drive the chorus through with better dynamics. Where Will I Be Sleeping; In a similar way to the first song it was just too repetitive and needed more dynamics. Click here for more information on musical dynamics. Sunny Days; This is the better of the three songs but perhaps the songs need someone else to perform the them as vocally they need more expression and projection. Click here for more information on how to find musicians – find musicians to work with.
Tom Nied – You have a unique style and voice. As a performer please ensure you look up and engage with the audience. Click here for more information on live performance opportunities which will allow you to practice this.
Neil McMillen – Nice deep tone to your vocal. Song was one of the best of the day really engaging chorus. You had a great dynamic lift in the chorus which made every line emotionally effective. Brighton Songwriters Wanted to Impress - Feedback
Alex Atrill – Lovely tone to your vocal and a sensitive delivery which really helps us to connect with your song. Good chorus with a varied vocal hook coupled with meaningful lyrics. Perhaps consider less generic chord progressions to give yourself an edge. Click here for more information on song structure for songwriters.
Ebonie G – Your song flowed and your joy in performing was apparent. It had a familiar, catchy sound which we could imagine hearing on the radio. Click here for more information on live performance opportunities which will allow you to keep honing your performance.
Giovanni – The Crazy cats; Your guitar playing is strong however your diction isn’t always so clear. Click here for guitar playing warm ups which you might find beneficial. The Music it’s Crazy but I Don’t Care; You picked your best song from your album which we also found catchy and fun.
Jack Ellis – You have a good voice and this was well delivered but it was a struggle to latch onto the message of the lyrics. Better use of dynamics would have helped to lift and drop appropriately. Click here for more information on musical dynamics.
Feedback for Brighton Songwriters Who Wanted To Impress
Reece Devaney –This song had nice lyrics that flowed well and a great chorus. However never stop when performing as we don’t know your song and would never have known – by doing this you are just highlighting any error. Click here for more live performance opportunities so you can practice handling these situations if they arise.
Mark Templeton – You have a unique energy however it lacked a bit of structure and flow. Click here for tips on song structure for songwriters.
Alex Sawyer – Super Power; Good expression conveys the message of the song well. You have a lovely soul to your vocal. Grip Me; Another floaty and dreamy number but we think it would benefit from emphasising the chorus more. Click here for more on songwriting tips – how to write a chorus.
Sandra – This had a funky groove and we can see potential with this song but the performance was a little untidy which didn’t help convey the message. Click here for live performance opportunities which can help you improve that performance.
Gavin Fitzgerald – This song had nice lyrics with a lovely sentiment. You delivered the song sensitively and conveyed the message well with both a good voice and playing. Click here for more information on live performance opportunities which will allow you to keep tweaking and perfecting your performance.
Liam and George - This Life is a River; Open your eyes more. Great dynamic shape. Storm; Great arrangement- using lower piano octave in chorus was nice. Great prosody! Really enjoyed this song, has real potential. Third Song; Good lyrical idea. Wasn't as dynamic as Storm, but still a nice song. Click here for musical dynamics.
Born2Blush - Great harmonies. Good structure to the song, click here for more advice on song structure. Keep developing more, mind-blowing melismas! You've got a catchy song here.
