Bristol Songwriters Wanted To Impress Music Industry Judges - Feedback
Robert Aitchison – Someday Monday; this was the favourite of the 3 songs with a good melody. In general you would benefit from having stronger hooks in order to leave an impression after the songs are concluded. Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus.
Aled Evans – Zoe Eye’s; This was very melodic and had good lyrics. I’ll be gone; Bad Boys; all three songs need to drive through a hook. Dynamics will improve it so far but they need a rework as the chord progression and bridge into the chorus needs to make it deliver. As a performer make sure to look up and engage your audience. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to practice doing this.
Luke Gittens – Angel; ‘All I see’ - you should make more use of that lyric and cut down the instrumental. Click here for information on song structure for songwriters. "Take my hand and get old with me" comes across as a little too cliché.
Emily Bates – You conveyed the emotion of the song well; however the lyrics need to be more intricate. Move it; This is a much catchier song and definitely has potential. It would potentially benefit from repeating the first chorus rather than the reworked second version. Click here for advice on song structure for songwriters.
Ruby May Spencer – This song had a good chorus but it took a long time for you to repeat the chorus and you need to get it back in there earlier. Click here for tips on song structure for songwriters.
Feedback for Bristol Songwriters Who Wanted to Impress
Molly – Feb Chill; This had a nice vibe and good lyrics. The melody was well written and the song carried itself well with good energy. Now continue to perfect your performance. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to do this.
Westopher Baker – You are a talented writer and we enjoyed hearing something different from you. Make sure to not play live over a backing track as you only have to be slightly out to make it clash with the backing track. Now continue to perfect your performance. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to do this.
Holly – This was a delicate, pretty song. It would now benefit from a little re-working to give it more direction. Click here for advice on song structure for songwriters.
Tom Auton – We can already imagine hearing this in the charts as it was catchy and we found ourselves singing along after only hearing it the once. Now continue to perfect your performance, click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to do this.
Jackie Perks – It can be difficult for you to convey the emotion of the songs when you are looking down at the lyrics rather than acting out the emotion in the songs. The writing on the wall; Potentially look at cutting down the long intro’s to allow you to grab people’s attention straight away. You are beautiful; This song had a nice melody but it took a little too long to go anywhere. In general you had good guitar work and nice songs but need to get the hooks in early so people can relate to the songs quicker and maintain their interest.
