James Baker – Like the rhythm of the lyrics, but making sure they’re delivered clearly is important! Some added dynamics could make it more interesting; click here for tips on musical dynamics. Love the lyrics not sure it has that hook that will make it a potential hit. Potentially rework and rename the song ‘cause and effect’ and work that as a hook? Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus.
Tom Baker – Good drive to the song and sweet melody. Keep drumming that hook have confidence and let the chorus lead this track. Needs a little repetition of the hook to leave us singing it in our heads. The lyrics are good, so is the melody. The song has lots of life in it which is great! Nice chord progression. Felt like the structure could be a bit tighter, click here for advice on song structure.
Bristol UK Songwriting Contest – Feedback for Songwriters
Tom Auton – This song builds really nicely to a strong hook and could easily be a hit for an established artist. Tom is really developing into a fantastic performer. Great lyrics and melody! Super catchy song. More variation in the dynamics would allow bigger builds and bring more impact to the chorus, click here for musical dynamics.
Tobias Robertson – A strong performer, wicked guitar work and like the sentiment in the song. Chorus and message was clear but needed a stronger hook to be a potential hit for an undiscovered act. Lyrically needed a change or breakdown as the lyrics felt quite predictable after just one run through. The build from the 1st verse to the chorus was good! A little more variation in the song would help it develop. Very Ed Sheeran-esque. Nice song, melody and chorus.
Arianne – Love the story the song conveys, can imagine this on a film track and from that it would become very successful. Good connection to the song which you conveyed exceptionally well. We felt connected! Very nice melodically and the sentiment of the lyric was good! Would have liked some variety in the song, click here for more on musical dynamics. Very wistful.
Izzy Felstead – This song is really current and will serve you well in a budding career. You need to develop your performance and command of the stage. Be good to develop your range to take the higher notes to a different place on occasions it feels like it stretches you vocally and be good to hear you comfortable here. Liked the quirky melody of the verse and the interesting lyrics. Needs a strong chorus, click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus. Reminds me of Kate Bush!
Molly Gould – You needed to add more dynamics it was hard to cling onto the lyrical content. Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus. Very catchy! Not quite so interesting in the middle 8 as it was in the beginning, perhaps a change in the dynamics would help, click here for advice on musical dynamics. Like the folky style to it.
Industry Feedback for Bristol UK Songwriting Contest
Sophii Negus – Beautiful song. Very thoughtful and mature lyrics. Strong melody. An extra twist in the arrangement would be the icing on the cake. You have a sweet tone to your vocal and the song has a lovely flowing melody. The sentiment of the song is nice but it’s also a little sleepy.
Tom Josling – You have good projection and drive the chorus home. The verses aren’t the strongest part of the song. You made the chorus and bridge work brilliantly as you worked the dynamics so well but it didn’t feel it organically lifted as freely. Strong melodically, especially in the chorus! Liked the quirky lyrics.
Elena Ramona – Song feels too personal and may struggle to get a broader appeal. The chorus needs to natural lift more to give more of an impact. Nice melody and lyrics. Would like to have more variation to give more distinction to the chorus! Some of the lyrics were a little cheesy in places.
Rioja Jacques – Lovely summer look and vibe to the song, can imagine it being a good driving song. The guitar picking and bridge are the most engaging part of the track. Take care with your guitar work as a little untidy at times. Very confident and effective song. Would like to hear more! Nice verse and chorus. Variation is needed in the middle 8!
Holly Morwenna – Nice harmony! Very poetic, backed up with a strong chorus melody! It’s a little repetitive. Lyrically it was a bit confusing to the story; is the song one of an ending relationship or one starting to develop into something. Your diction and clarity of vocal is impressive.
Bristol UK Songwriting Contest – Live Showcase Feedback
Jack Hill – Think you should have read the feedback from the auditions. The song has potential but it is very much like a charity song or a song at a school play. Male vocal/rapper you need to perform and commit to the performance. There needs to visually more emotionally and with your expression. Liked the melody in the chorus and the sentiment of the lyrics. Could do with more spoken parts. Good production! It needs better structure, click here for advice on song structure.
Yazzy – You sustain the notes wonderfully. Mic control could be tweaked to be a bit more polished. Song wise you convey your emotions so well. Love the build to the chorus, which is very chorus. Nice chord structure.
Isobel Sutton – The lead into the chorus is a bit messy and a reworking of the lyrics could make that transition more flowing. The chorus works well and is engaging. Could be great if it’s given the right production. Nice rhythmic variety.
Yana Williams – The chorus is strong. Some nice touches in the arrangement. Maybe a more concise structure would help the overall shape of the song, click here for advice on song structure. Very captivating and engaging another emotionally charged performance.
Charlie Pughe – Live It Up: Good melodic structure. The song would benefit from just adjusting your delivery just a timing issue would give more impact. The chorus in the end is a little repetitive. A good hook in the chorus is necessary as it needs to be more memorable, click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus. Sorry: Good melody. Interesting lyrics and nice arrangement. The piano is perfect for this. This feels a more complete song, good structure and a natural lift to the chorus. This song has strong potential and the character in your vocal really brings the song to life!
Ruby May Spencer – Liked your chorus but what was the song about a relationship, a situation? You drive the chorus excellently with your vocals. Lots of potential here! Memorable chorus. It’s a song people will find easy to relate to. Strong emotive song. Some nice twists in the arrangement. Keep writing!
Luke Gittins – Loved the sentiment and commitment to the song but wanted a prominent hook to be the drive to listen to the song again. Good structure. It holds interest throughout by not being predictable. Like the lyrics!
