  • Vocal coach and backing singer for Lily Allen, Yulanda Lindsey
  • Talent Talks representative Bobby Mitchell
  • Head of Future Music, Chris Grayston

London Songwriting Competition – Feedback

Josh – This was a great song with a good vibe and strong performance. It was both emotive and created strong imagery with a superb instrumental mid-section. We felt like there was great passion behind your performance. Now just keep continuing to perfect your performance. Click here for information on live performance opportunities.

Mina Rani – We felt a backing track would help your performance to flow. Click here for more information on live performance opportunities which will help you to strengthen your performance.

Steve Scott – Moral Exodus; This passionate performance was both captivating and soulful with nice guitar playing. We felt the track would have benefitted from having a real chorus hook to latch on to. Free from all my trouble; This song was also soulful with a great beat and strong melody. The topline was catchy and the lyrics are fantastic, again it would benefit from utilising a catchy hook to anchor itself into your head along with some strengthening of the chorus. James – This song had a good topic and felt bouncy. Both the topline and melody were strong. Now continue to work on your performance. Click here for live performance opportunities.

Feedback for the London Songwriting Competition

Stella and Chris – Chris is a superb guitarist which adds an extra dimension. 2000 miles; This is a very dreamy little number you can imagine playing in the car on a summer drive. It had a great topline, strong story and good rise and fall. It was both engaging, interesting and soulful and the great performance (both singing and guitar playing) was a bonus. Miss my father; This song was beautiful, clever and engaging. It had a strong topline and powerful lyrics but could benefit from additional dimension. Savour the colorus; This song was had a lovely melody and was lyrically strong. There were good dynamics and strong chemistry throughout which made for an engaging performance. Zip skirt; This song was very catchy with clever lyrics and a good use of repetition. Another great performance from both of you. Diane – This song was very soulful and unique. It was engaging with a strong story and great flow. We liked the use of rap. Now just continue to perfect your performance. Click here for more information on live performance opportunities which will allow you to do this.

Richard – You had a very interesting voice which would benefit from some exercises to strengthen the beautiful colour of it. This song had a great melody but would benefit from more engaging lyrics. Perhaps you could consider working with another song writer to help strengthen your lyrics. Click here for more information on song writers – working with other song writers.

Jaunty – You had a nice voice and this was a great performance. The song had a nice melody but would have benefitted from being a bit more dynamic. Click here for more information on the importance of structure when writing a song

Chloe – Your Girl; The first song had a great energy, with clear hooks and a nice topline. It was confident, catchy and advanced. Perfect; This song had a great opening, strong dynamics and mature melodies. The rise and fall was awesome and we loved the story which showed great imagination. Perhaps repeat the chorus to make it more of a hook. Candles burning; Your guitar work was strong in this song. Future Music London Songwriting Competition

Mujde – We feel this song had good ideas but would benefit from being simplified and having a stronger topline. Click here for tips on the importance of structure and having a strong opening line when writing a song. The second song had a nice sentiment.

Phillip – Flying; This song had a great topic and a clever story. The pre-chorus was catchy although it would benefit from having slightly less predictable lyrics. Shine; A deep and emotive song with a catchy verse. It would benefit from having the momentum maintained throughout and a stronger topline. Click here for more information on the significance of having a strong opening line when writing a song

Louise – This song was soulful and catchy with a nice topline and good vocals. It had great hooks with good rise and falls and flowed nicely. We felt like if it was tweaked slightly it has the potential to be fantastic. Perhaps have another song writer look at your work to help you make these little changes to perfect it. Click here for more information on song writers – working with other song writers

Robin – Distracted; This song was beautiful, haunting and engaging. It had good hooks and great lyrics but would benefit from being more dynamic. Some you win; This was an engaging song which made us smile. There was a good use of melody, very strong topline, great topic and the writing was very mature. Perhaps look to rework the chords to give a natural lift at the chorus and help the song reach a climax. Working with another song writer could help you to tweak these aspects. Click here for more information on song writers – working with other song writers

Greg – Both songs were catchy with good lyrics and a nice beat but would benefit from a bit more variation throughout. Asian Star; This song would benefit from a shorter intro and additional dynamics. Click here for tips on how to get a good structure when writing a song

Merna – Red roses; Loved the topline and your performance. This song had strong, clever lyrics and was impressively advanced for your age. To improve we felt the dynamics in this song could be more distinct. Click here for more on the importance of structure when writing a song. Run; This song had lots of passion, a great start and great imagery. It was both clever and engaging.
