Reading Songwriting Competition Feedback

Hannah Smith – Crowded Room; This song had a good, catchy chorus but needs to tail off after with some more meaningful lyrics. Way we do it; This song would benefit from a stronger production as we could see it potentially being a good dance track! Click here for some information on recording studio UK – what to expect at a recording studio UK.

Bethan Smith – We liked the vibe and you set the song up with some clever lyrics - both dark and thoughtful. Now drive through that chorus, potentially look to repeat the chorus line more. Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus.

Charlotte Lloyd – This was a strong folk song and we liked the imagery of the lyrics. Now look to make it more distinctive; really drive through that chorus and project the message. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to perfect this.

Chris Loveridge -  Not Me; This grasps the listeners attention straight away but would benefit from a more obvious hook. The Stone That You Throw; This song had inspiring lyrics but was a little too samey – it would benefit from more of a build to a distinct chorus. Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus.

Heidi Harrise – Apologies; This song had a catchy enjoyable rhythm and chord progressions. Now look to shorten that intro as it isn’t really doing so this would make it more interesting. In general the backing music was very basic; you would benefit from getting into a studio and having a backing track fully produced. Anna; This sound had a pretty sound but needs full production look to work on vocal hook. Click here for some information on recording studio UK – what to expect at a recording studio UK.

Aiden – Battlecry; This song had a really good intro and intricate piano runs with a good choice of chords. Now look to make the chorus bigger as we really liked it, so make sure we leave that imprinted on our minds. Let You know; This song had a pretty feel to it and you changed it up, but it was sung very quietly. You would benefit from repeating the chorus hook more. Every part of me; Lyrically this was the best of the three so far; the message and emotion was clearly conveyed to us. Going forwards, ensure to focus on your playing at all times.  Aubrey; This was a catchy pop song which made us smile. It flowed nicely and had good lyrics. Now look to work with a good vocal coach to improve your projection. Continue to perfect your performance - click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to do this.

Reading Feedback for the Future Music Songwriting Competition

Steve Grisby – Infatuation; This song has a cool sound and lifted nicely as it progressed. There was a lovely vibe created instrumentally and the dynamics were well worked. Farewell; Although this took a little while to get going you conveyed the emotion of the song well; this sounded like a painful experience. Now continue to perfect your performance. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to do this.

Rob Escourt – Lights, camera, action; This had a good pop vibe but would potentially benefit from strengthening your vocal projection and tuning to portray the song better. A good vocal coach will be able to assist you to improve this easily. In the meantime, continue to perfect your performance. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to do this.

Chloe Smith – This was a pretty song and we loved the way you conveyed the emotion. Now continue to perfect your performance. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to do this.

Amanda Aalto – Passing Through; This song would benefit from additional dynamics as it stayed on the same level throughout. Don’t Make Me Give Up On You; Potentially look to vary the chords and project more in order to give more emphasis to the chorus. Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus.

Tommy Lloyd – With both of your songs look to drive through that chorus, don’t let the song just meander. Click here for more advice on song structure for songwriters.

Nicky Booty – We liked the narrative, now think about adding in more dynamics to give the song more depth. Click here for more information on musical dynamics.

Chris Rae – Is It Wrong and Water under the bridge; These songs would benefit from a really catchy hook. Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus.
