Sheffield Songwriters Wanted To Impress Music Industry Judges - Feedback
Sam Hourley – Life & Call Me Baby; The chorus in Call Me Baby was good but these songs sounded a little too 80’s; look to re-work and modernise them. It may be beneficial to get another songwriter to look over the songs and assist you in re-working them. Click here for advice on song writers - working with other song writers.
Kelly Jenns – You Follow Me; This song had a good intro and melodies on the verses with a strong chorus. Now look to go through all your lyrics with the aim to drop words and simplify sentences you don’t need. Fire; This was a good, strong song and we could see it being a great dance track. It would potentially benefit from ‘updating’ as it is a little 80’s sounding right now but it wouldn’t take much to address this. Steve Birks – Almost; The structure is there on this song and it has a strong hook, however the lyrics are a little too wordy in places. Only good; This had a fun concept in verse 1 however the chorus sounded like it belonged in another song. Work on strengthening the chorus both lyrically and its melody. Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus.
Ginger Tom – This song had a good arrangement with great chords and melodies. Make sure the point you are making with the lyrics is very clear. Now continue to perfect your performance. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to do so.
Sarah Seamous – Somewhere Else; This song had a country folk feel to it with nice guitar playing. It started well but didn’t seem to progress anywhere. Father Time; This song needs more work doing to it as it doesn’t have a proper flow or rhythm to it. Click here for advice on song structure for songwriters.
Emilie Broomfield – This song had a good rhythm but it was very simple and in need of more dynamics to make it hook in the audience. Click here for more tips on musical dynamics.
Martin – This song had a good backing track and rhythm. Now work on enhacing the dynamics within the song. Click here for more advice on musical dynamics.

Elena Larkin – This was a good, current sounding song with a strong chorus and arrangement. Now continue to perfect your performance. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to do this.
Sharon Walkins - There’ll be a time; It needs to be clearer what this song is about. Calming the storm; This song should start at ‘some girls,’ you would benefit from cutting everything before that. Click here for moer advice on song structure for songwriters.
Helen Gayle – This song was funky with a quirky hook. The lyrics were good as was the guitar playing, and the chorus is catchy. Click here for some guitar playing warms up.
Ben Arkut – New start; This was a strong song had a good structure and chorus. Pain Blues; We loved the pre-chorus and felt this had a very interesting transition. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to continue perfecting you performance.
Sam Arkut – This song had a good, strong chorus. Now look to improve the flow and transitions within the song. Click here for tips on song structure for songwriters.
Chanel Yates – This song had a nice concept but would benefit from getting to the chorus sooner and losing some of the words so that it doesn’t sound overly complicated. Click here for tips on song structure for songwriters.
Niel Chee – Hurt & Gasoline; Both of these songs need more direction and dynamics within them. Click here for advice on musical dynamics.
