Sheffield Songwriting Competition Feedback
Lewis Hornsey – Your song had a great tempo, catchy lyrics and a good flow. Both the chorus and intro were strong. Click here for live performance opportunities which will allow you to continue perfecting your performance.
David Hurst – You had a good intro but the energy dropped when you went in to the verse. This song has a good hook but needs more work on the verses to make them more interesting. Click here for more information on song structure for songwriters.
Connor Drew – We liked the idea of this song but it needed an intro and more definite verses. Right now you just have the music and a hook. Click here for more information on song structure for songwriters.
Becky Webb – This song told a good story and we enjoyed the lyrics. It would potentially benefit from losing the heavy strumming in the middle as this contrasted with the calm and relaxing tone.
Nayshia Gordon – This song had a great start but needs to progress more. Now look to tweak the melody on the verse and lose some of the lyrics in the chorus.
Delsena Wayround – This song had a good structure and told a story but would benefit from a more modern sound.
Samuel Richardson – You have a good chorus and bridge but need to make the verses and intro stronger. We would like to hear this fully finished. Click here for more advice on writing a song.
Sheffield Feedback for the Future Music Songwriting Competition
Jodie Smith – This song needs more structure and a definite concept to the lyrics. Click here for more information on song structure for songwriters.
Matt Henry – Heartbeats; This song was structured well with a good melody and nice lyrics. Potentially look to vary the riff and chords to stop it sounding too much like Mumford and Sons. What if; We loved the second part of the chorus. Again it had nice lyrics and a brilliant harmony.
Remi Simpson – This song had a good structure but would potentially benefit from simplifying the lyrics and making your point clearer throughout. Nice guitar work!
Lewis Armitage – The guitar intro was nice but the energy dropped too much with the pause on the verse. The chorus was good, being both clear and simple.
Maria Winter – This song had good lyrics and sounded heartfelt. It would benefit from having a backing track.
Graham Lindley – This song had a good verse and chorus with a great rhythm and lyrics.
Avishex Choudury – Unknown; This was a nice song with a good melody on the chorus. Out of the Blue; There was a great, strong start to this song. The chorus could potentially be improved by simplifying the lyrics. Click here for songwriting tips – how to write a chorus.
George Harris – This song had a good concept. It would benefit from changing the first line and saving the key line for the chorus. Also look to simplify the lyrics on the verse but overall this was a great song.
